12.12.2025: Visiting a model railway club with the Economic Council

This time, the Villingen-Schwenningen/Donaueschingen Section of the Economic Council met at the Model Railway Club Oberes Bregtal (MECOB e.V.). The model railway club has found a home in the premises of a primary school, and so the meeting took place in a classroom. This event did not focus on technical, economic or political issues as is usually the case; instead, the section wanted to end the year in a cosy atmosphere at an unusual location.

After a welcome by Section Spokesman Dr. Ulrich Dietz, Professor Manfred Kühne, member of the Section’s Executive Board and 1st Chairman of MECOB, took over as moderator. This was followed by interesting presentations by Prof. Dr. Robert Hönl, former Dean of Furtwangen University (HFU), and Peter Fehrenbach, 2nd Chairman of MECOB.

Afterwards, there was an opportunity to view the extraordinary model railway in operation. The installation includes several automated levels as well as model trains with steam, lights and lots of sounds. This allows visitors to get a first-hand sense of the fascination of miniaturized impressive technology in scaled-down replicas of real landscapes.

The evening ended with a raclette dinner together, which provided plenty of opportunity to look back on the section’s past year.

Special thanks go to the board members and members of the MECOB association, as well as to the sponsors of the raclette dinner.
